Ingredients
Scale
1 can (approx. 225 g) whole water chestnuts, drained
1 package (approx. 340 g) center cut bacon
240 ml ketchup
200 g brown sugar, packed
15 ml Worcestershire sauce
Toothpicks
Instructions
Set oven temperature to 175°C and allow to fully preheat.
Cut bacon slices into thirds. Wrap each water chestnut with a third slice of bacon and secure by piercing through with a toothpick.
Line a baking sheet with foil and apply non-stick spray. Place each bacon-wrapped water chestnut on the sheet in a single layer.
Bake for 25 minutes until bacon begins to crisp.
While baking, combine ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce in a small saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves completely, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
After 25 minutes, remove pan from oven and spoon the prepared sauce over each piece. Return to oven and bake an additional 25 minutes until bacon is caramelized.
Transfer to serving platter and serve warm.
Notes
For extra crispiness, broil for an additional 2-3 minutes at the end.
Can be prepared in advance and reheated in the oven.
Replace brown sugar with a sugar substitute for a lighter option.
