Delicious homemade blueberry cinnamon rolls topped with creamy blueberry cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup blueberry jam (store-bought or homemade)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup blueberry jam
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (adjust for desired consistency)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Let this mixture sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is activated. Then, add the melted butter and egg to the mixture and whisk thoroughly to combine all wet ingredients.
  2. Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt to the wet ingredients, stirring continuously until a dough begins to form. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 5 to 7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  3. Roll Out the Dough: Once risen, punch down the dough to release air bubbles. Roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle approximately 1/4-inch thick, preparing it for the filling.
  4. Spread the Filling: Evenly spread the blueberry jam all over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges to prevent overflow during rolling.
  5. Roll and Cut: Starting at one of the long edges, tightly roll the dough into a log. Using a sharp knife, slice the log into 12 equal pieces. Place each piece cut side up into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, ensuring they are spaced evenly.
  6. Second Rise: Cover the arranged rolls with a clean towel and allow them to rise again for 30 to 45 minutes, or until the rolls have puffed up significantly.
  7. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25 to 30 minutes, or until they turn a golden brown on top. Remove them from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before frosting.
  8. Make the Frosting: In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, softened butter, blueberry jam, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating until the frosting reaches your desired thickness and consistency.
  9. Frost and Serve: Spread the blueberry cream cheese frosting generously over the warm rolls. Serve immediately and enjoy these delightful blueberry cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of powdered sugar in the frosting to achieve your preferred sweetness.
