A flavorful one-pot dish combining smoked sausage, rice, and Cajun spices with a hint of honey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 cup long-grain rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Chopped green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat a bit of oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned.
  3. Stir in the onion, bell pepper, and garlic, allowing the vegetables to soften.
  4. Add the rice and toast it gently for a few minutes.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth, honey, and Cajun seasoning, stirring to combine.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
  7. Cover and simmer for about 20 minutes.
  8. Remove from heat, fluff the rice with a fork, and season with salt and pepper.
  9. Top with chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

Let the sausage brown well for extra flavor. You can substitute turkey sausage for a leaner option.
