Ingredients
Scale
Sloppy Joe Filling
450g ground beef or ground turkey
120ml chopped onion
2 garlic cloves, minced
120ml ketchup
15ml tomato paste
15ml Worcestershire sauce
5ml yellow mustard
Salt, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Garlic Bread
1 French baguette or 4 sub rolls, halved lengthwise
115g unsalted butter, softened
2 garlic cloves, minced
15ml fresh parsley, chopped
Pinch of salt
Cheese Topping
100g shredded mozzarella cheese
100g shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
Set oven to 190°C and allow it to preheat thoroughly.
In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté chopped onion and minced garlic for 2-3 minutes until aromatic.
Add ground beef or turkey to the skillet; cook, stirring frequently, until evenly browned. Drain excess fat.
Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer mixture for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
In a bowl, combine softened butter with minced garlic, chopped parsley, and a pinch of salt until homogeneous.
Spread garlic butter evenly on cut sides of baguette or rolls. Arrange on a baking tray and toast in the oven for 5-7 minutes until golden and crisp.
Distribute sloppy joe mixture onto toasted bread halves. Sprinkle with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
Return tray to oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, until cheeses are melted and bubbly.
Serve hot, accompanied by a simple salad, fries, or pickles if desired.
Notes
Feel free to substitute ground turkey for a lighter option.
You can add additional toppings such as jalapeños or diced bell peppers to the sloppy joe mixture for extra flavor.
For a vegetarian version, use plant-based meat alternatives.
