Ingredients

Scale
  • Sloppy Joe Filling
  • 450g ground beef or ground turkey
  • 120ml chopped onion
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 120ml ketchup
  • 15ml tomato paste
  • 15ml Worcestershire sauce
  • 5ml yellow mustard
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Garlic Bread
  • 1 French baguette or 4 sub rolls, halved lengthwise
  • 115g unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 15ml fresh parsley, chopped
  • Pinch of salt
  • Cheese Topping
  • 100g shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 100g shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Set oven to 190°C and allow it to preheat thoroughly.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté chopped onion and minced garlic for 2-3 minutes until aromatic.
  3. Add ground beef or turkey to the skillet; cook, stirring frequently, until evenly browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer mixture for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  5. In a bowl, combine softened butter with minced garlic, chopped parsley, and a pinch of salt until homogeneous.
  6. Spread garlic butter evenly on cut sides of baguette or rolls. Arrange on a baking tray and toast in the oven for 5-7 minutes until golden and crisp.
  7. Distribute sloppy joe mixture onto toasted bread halves. Sprinkle with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
  8. Return tray to oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, until cheeses are melted and bubbly.
  9. Serve hot, accompanied by a simple salad, fries, or pickles if desired.

Notes

  • Feel free to substitute ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • You can add additional toppings such as jalapeños or diced bell peppers to the sloppy joe mixture for extra flavor.
  • For a vegetarian version, use plant-based meat alternatives.
