Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 23 tbsp milk (for glaze)
  • 1/2 tsp peppermint extract (for glaze)
  • Crushed candy canes for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix buttermilk, oil, egg, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Spoon batter into donut pan cavities, filling about 3/4 full.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Let donuts cool in pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  8. For glaze, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and peppermint extract until smooth. Adjust consistency as needed.
  9. Dip cooled donuts into glaze and sprinkle with crushed candy canes.
  10. Let glaze set before serving.

Notes

  • Store leftover donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
