- 1 pound (450g) sausage meat (pork, turkey, or chicken)
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried sage)
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1/2 cup grated cheese (cheddar or your favorite cheese)
- Optional: 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (for added texture)
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a skillet, sauté the onion until translucent, then add the garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- In a large bowl, combine sausage meat, sautéed onion and garlic, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix in optional cheese and breadcrumbs if desired.
- On a floured surface, roll out the puff pastry, cutting it into rectangles (about 4 inches by 6 inches).
- Place a spoonful of the sausage mixture on one edge of each rectangle, roll it up, and seal the edges with water.
- Brush the tops of the rolls with the beaten egg and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 25 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
- Let the sausage rolls cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- These sausage rolls can be made ahead of time and frozen before baking.
- Serve with your choice of dipping sauce for added flavor.
