Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Red and green sprinkles or festive colored sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and milk until smooth to create the glaze.
  10. Spread the glaze evenly over the cooled bars and sprinkle with red and green festive sugar or sprinkles.
  11. Let the glaze set before slicing into bars.

Notes

  • Chill the dough for 30 minutes before pressing into the pan for a thicker, chewier bar.
  • Use room temperature ingredients to ensure even mixing and better texture.
