- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Red and green sprinkles or festive colored sugar
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
- In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and milk until smooth to create the glaze.
- Spread the glaze evenly over the cooled bars and sprinkle with red and green festive sugar or sprinkles.
- Let the glaze set before slicing into bars.
Notes
- Chill the dough for 30 minutes before pressing into the pan for a thicker, chewier bar.
- Use room temperature ingredients to ensure even mixing and better texture.
