Creamy Baked Orzo With Meatballs is a delicious and comforting dish featuring tender orzo pasta, savory meatballs, marinara sauce, and gooey cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and form into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the meatballs until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the orzo and toast for 2-3 minutes until slightly golden. Pour in the marinara sauce and heavy cream, stirring to combine. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, allowing the orzo to absorb some of the sauce.
  5. Transfer the orzo mixture to a greased baking dish. Nestle the meatballs into the orzo, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  6. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, you can substitute ground turkey for the beef.
  • Feel free to add vegetables such as spinach or bell peppers to the orzo mixture.
  • This dish can be made ahead of time and baked just before serving.
