Delight in tender beef slow-cooked with garlic and onions, served on crusty rolls with a savory au jus.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs beef chuck roast
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • French rolls or hoagie buns
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Provolone cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season the beef: In the slow cooker, place your beef chuck roast. Generously season it with salt and pepper.
  2. Add the sliced onion and minced garlic on top of the beef.
  3. Mix together the beef broth, water, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour this mixture over the beef.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and let it cook on low for about 480 minutes or until the beef is tender.
  5. Shred the beef using two forks, mixing it back in the au jus.
  6. Gather your French rolls or hoagie buns and pile them with the shredded beef. Top with provolone cheese if desired.
  7. Serve with a small bowl of the savory au jus for dipping.

Notes

Consider making it ahead of time for convenience. You can also use an oven at low heat if a slow cooker is unavailable.
