Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons of baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon of baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups of granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of buttermilk
  • Cream cheese frosting (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in vanilla, then alternate between adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk. Mix just until combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the pans. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let the cakes cool completely before frosting.

Notes

Chill your cakes before frosting to create a stable layer. Consider soaking your cake layers for added moisture.
