A delightful and sweet dish combining fresh figs with creamy ricotta, honey, and nuts for a perfect appetizer or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 fresh figs
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/4 cup honey (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (such as pistachios or walnuts)
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Gather Your Ingredients: Start by gathering all the ingredients listed above. Make sure your figs are fresh and ripe for the best flavor.
  2. Mix the Ricotta: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add 1 cup of ricotta cheese.
  3. Add Flavorings: Pour in 1/4 cup of honey, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt.
  4. Blend Together: Using a spatula or a whisk, mix everything together until the ricotta is smooth and creamy. You want the honey and vanilla to be evenly distributed throughout the cheese.
  5. Taste and Adjust: Give the mixture a taste. If you prefer it sweeter, feel free to add a little more honey. Set the ricotta mixture aside while you prepare the figs.
  6. Wash the Figs: Rinse the figs gently under cold water to remove any dirt or residue. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel.
  7. Trim the Stems: Using a sharp knife, carefully trim off the stems of the figs. You want to keep the figs intact, so be gentle.
  8. Slice the Figs: Depending on your preference, you can either leave the figs whole or slice them in half lengthwise. If you choose to slice them, make sure not to cut all the way through; you want them to hold their shape.
  9. Fill the Figs: Take a small spoon or a piping bag and fill each fig with the ricotta mixture. If you’re using a piping bag, it makes the process much easier and neater.
  10. Drizzle with Honey: Once all the figs are filled, take the remaining honey and drizzle it generously over the top of each fig. This adds a beautiful shine and extra sweetness.
  11. Add Nuts: Sprinkle the chopped nuts over the filled figs. This adds a delightful crunch and complements the creamy ricotta.
  12. Garnish: If you’re feeling fancy, add a few fresh mint leaves on top for a pop of color and a refreshing flavor.
  13. Plate the Figs: Arrange the figs on a serving platter. You can place them in a circular pattern or in rows, depending on your presentation style.
  14. Chill (Optional): If you prefer your figs chilled, you can place the platter in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before serving. This can enhance the flavors and make for a refreshing treat.
  15. Serve: Serve the figs as a delightful appetizer, a light dessert, or even as part of a cheese board. They pair wonderfully with a glass of dessert wine or a cup of herbal tea.

Notes

  • Use ripe figs for the best flavor.
  • Experiment with different nuts for variation.
  • The ricotta mixture can be made in advance and refrigerated.
