- 1 package phyllo dough (thawed)
- 1 lb ground beef or lamb
- 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground allspice
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup melted butter (for brushing phyllo)
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté chopped onion until soft. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
- Add ground meat and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in tomato paste, cinnamon, allspice, salt, and pepper. Cook for 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Let filling cool slightly. Stir in parsley and beaten egg.
- Layer 6-7 sheets of phyllo in the prepared dish, brushing each with butter.
- Spread the meat filling evenly over the phyllo.
- Top with 6-7 more phyllo sheets, again brushing each with butter.
- Score the top gently with a sharp knife.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Let rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing.

- Serve with a fresh salad or yogurt sauce for extra flavor.
- For a vegetarian option, substitute the meat with mushrooms or lentils.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
