These Homemade Cherry Puff Turnovers are delightful pastries filled with sweet cherry pie filling, encased in flaky puff pastry, and finished with a delicious vanilla glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup cherry pie filling, fresh or canned
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon whole milk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Set oven to 200°C and allow it to fully preheat.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out thawed puff pastry sheets to eliminate seams.
  3. Divide each pastry sheet into 4 equal squares. Spoon 1 to 2 tablespoons of cherry pie filling into the center of each square.
  4. Fold each square diagonally to form a triangle and firmly press the edges together. Use a fork to crimp and seal edges securely.
  5. In a bowl, vigorously whisk egg with 1 tablespoon milk. Brush the mixture over the surface of each turnover.
  6. Arrange turnovers on a parchment-lined baking tray and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. While baking, mix powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and 2 to 3 tablespoons milk in a bowl until smooth. Adjust milk for desired consistency.
  8. Once turnovers are baked and slightly cooled, drizzle glaze evenly over the top before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, consider using homemade cherry pie filling.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
  • Feel free to substitute other fillings, like apple or berry, following the same instructions.
