A classic Italian dish featuring a rich meat sauce made with ground beef, vegetables, and tomatoes served over spaghetti.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz canned whole tomatoes
  • 1 medium carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • ½ cup red wine
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 12 oz spaghetti (or pasta of your choice)

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the onion, garlic, carrot, and celery.
  2. In a large pot over medium heat, add olive oil. Sauté onions until translucent (about 5 minutes).
  3. Stir in ground beef and cook until browned (8–10 minutes).
  4. Add garlic, carrots, and celery; stir well before adding canned tomatoes and red wine.
  5. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for at least 30 minutes until thickened.
  6. Cook pasta according to package instructions; drain and mix into the sauce gently before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure to simmer the sauce long enough for the flavors to meld together.
  • Serve with grated Parmesan cheese on top for extra flavor.
