Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy and smooth. Add powdered sugar and beat until fluffy.
  3. Add in flour and salt. Mix on low speed until a crumbly dough begins to form. If using vanilla, add it here.
  4. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan using your hands or a spatula. Use a fork to prick the top for even baking.
  5. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the edges are just lightly golden.
  6. Let cool completely in the pan before lifting out and slicing into bars or squares.
  7. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • Make sure to use softened butter for the best texture.
  • Customize the recipe by adding chocolate chips or nuts if desired.
  • For a richer flavor, consider using vanilla extract.
