A quick and easy recipe for a classic Italian dish featuring breaded chicken breasts topped with marinara sauce and melted cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 ½ cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 ½ cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 8 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pound chicken breasts to an even thickness (about ½ inch) and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Set up three shallow bowls: one for flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for a mixture of breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese.
  3. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, shaking off the excess, dip into the eggs, then coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
  4. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the breaded chicken for 4–5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from heat.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place cooked chicken breasts in a baking dish, spoon marinara sauce over each piece, and top with shredded mozzarella.
  6. Bake for 15–20 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Sprinkle with fresh basil leaves and serve hot, ideally with pasta or a side salad.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, use whole wheat breadcrumbs.
  • Feel free to add spices like garlic powder or Italian seasoning to the breadcrumb mixture for extra flavor.
