Soft Pretzel Bites are a deliciously simple snack that are perfect for dipping in cheese or mustard.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 10 cups water
  • 2/3 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt, for topping

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  5. Bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil in a large pot.
  6. Punch down the dough and cut into 8 equal pieces. Roll each into a rope and cut into 1-inch bite-sized pieces.
  7. Drop a handful of dough bites into the boiling water for 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on prepared baking sheets.
  8. Brush each with egg wash, sprinkle with coarse salt, and bake for 12–14 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Serve warm with cheese dip, mustard, or your favorite sauce.

Notes

  • For a crispier pretzel, bake for an additional minute or two.
  • These bites are best served warm, but can be reheated in a microwave or oven.
