  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup brewed sweet tea (strong and slightly sweetened)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat.
  2. Add sliced onions, salt, and pepper. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until onions become golden and caramelized (about 30–40 minutes).
  3. Stir in red pepper flakes (if using), sweet tea, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, and balsamic vinegar.
  4. Simmer until the liquid reduces and the mixture thickens to a jam-like consistency (about 10–15 minutes).
  5. Let cool before storing in a jar. Keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
