A delightful baked pecan French toast that turns a simple morning into something special, combining soft bread with rich custard and crunchy pecans.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of bread (preferably French or Texas toast)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Maple syrup for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Slice the bread into thick slices — about 1 inch thick — and arrange them in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon in a bowl until well blended.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread, ensuring all pieces are well-soaked.
  5. Mix the chopped pecans with the melted butter in a separate bowl and spread the mixture evenly over the top of the bread.
  6. Bake covered with foil for 30 minutes; then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Serve warm with maple syrup if desired.

Notes

Let the bread soak longer for a creamier texture. Use quality bread for best results.
