A delicious and easy-to-make Banana Dump Cake that combines ripe bananas with cake mix and butter for a sweet dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 large very ripe bananas; divided
  • 1 cup whole milk (or evaporated milk)
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 15.25 ounce box yellow cake mix
  • ½ cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (or to taste)
  • ¾ cup cold unsalted butter, sliced into approximately 24 pats

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F and spray a 9×13-inch pan with cooking spray or grease the pan.
  2. Add about 2 1/2 bananas into the pan and mash them, then distribute or spread them evenly.
  3. Slice the remaining 2 1/2 bananas into thin bite-sized pieces and scatter them over the mashed bananas.
  4. Evenly pour milk over the banana layers.
  5. If using nuts, sprinkle them evenly over the pan.
  6. Evenly sprinkle the dry cake mix over everything.
  7. Distribute the sliced pats of butter over the surface.
  8. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle it over the pan.
  9. Do not mix the ingredients; they will combine while baking.
  10. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the top is golden and the liquid is bubbling.
  11. Allow the cake to cool for 30 minutes before serving.
  12. Scoop warm cake into bowls and optionally drizzle with caramel sauce, serve with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Using very ripe bananas enhances the sweetness and flavor.
  • For a richer taste, dark brown sugar is recommended.
  • Ensure cake mix is evenly distributed to avoid a dry texture.
  • All ovens are different; check the cake early to avoid overbaking.
