A delicious mash-up of classic burgers and savory gyros, featuring crispy edges and juicy centers.

Ingredients

  • Ground beef (about 1 pound)
  • Pita bread (4 pieces)
  • Greek yogurt (1 cup)
  • Cucumber (1, diced)
  • Garlic (2 cloves, minced)
  • Lemon juice (2 tablespoons)
  • Olive oil (1 tablespoon)
  • Salt and Pepper (to taste)
  • Fresh spinach or lettuce (for topping)
  • Tomato (1, sliced)
  • Red onion (1, thinly sliced)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your skillet or griddle over high heat.
  2. Form the ground beef into balls (about the size of a golf ball) and place them directly onto your hot skillet.
  3. Smash the balls down using a sturdy spatula to create thin patties.
  4. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Cook until browned on one side (about 2-3 minutes), then flip and cook for another minute or two.
  6. While the burgers are cooking, combine Greek yogurt, diced cucumber, minced garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, and some salt and pepper in a bowl. Stir well.
  7. Toast the pita bread lightly in a dry skillet or toaster.
  8. Place each patty on a pita, and top with spinach, tomato, red onion, and a drizzle of the yogurt sauce.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Allow patties to rest for a minute after cooking for maximum juiciness. Add chili flakes to the yogurt sauce if you like some heat.
