Deliciously chewy oatmeal cookies packed with rich chocolate chips, perfect for snacking or sharing.

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and oats in a medium bowl and set aside.
  3. Beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in a large bowl until creamy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each, followed by the vanilla extract.
  5. Fold the dry mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and optional nuts.
  7. Scoop the dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them apart.
  8. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until edges are golden and centers look soft.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Use room temperature butter for best results and don’t rush the cooling process to avoid hard cookies.
