  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 cups chocolate frosting (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with heart-shaped cupcake liners.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir often so it doesn’t stick.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually stir in boiling water until well combined.
  5. Fill the cupcake liners about 2/3 full with batter.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let cupcakes cool completely before frosting with chocolate frosting.
