Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped maraschino cherries, patted dry
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon maraschino cherry juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven: Set it to 350°F.
  2. Prepare the baking sheets: Line them with parchment paper.
  3. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  4. Cream butter and sugars: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add egg and vanilla: Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  6. Combine dry and wet ingredients: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  7. Fold in the chopped maraschino cherries, chocolate chips, and cherry juice if you’re using it.
  8. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared sheets. Don’t overcrowd them!
  9. Bake: Pop them in the oven for about 10–12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
  10. Cool and enjoy: Let them cool for 5 minutes on the pan before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Best stored in an airtight container at room temperature. Freeze the dough for up to 3 months.
