Delicious Shortbread Caramel Bars with a buttery crust and rich caramel filling, perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup homemade caramel sauce (or store-bought)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: sea salt for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your baking pan well.
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Gradually add in the flour and salt. Mix until a crumbly dough forms.
  4. Press about 2/3 of the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
  5. Spread the homemade caramel sauce evenly over the crust.
  6. Crumble the remaining dough over the caramel layer.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until lightly golden on top.
  8. Allow to cool completely before cutting into bars.
  9. Sprinkle with sea salt before serving if desired.

Notes

Let the caramel cool slightly before pouring it over the crust to avoid sogginess.
