A comforting casserole filled with ground beef or turkey, rice, and zesty tomato sauce, slow-cooked to perfection.

  • 1 large head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the chopped cabbage, ground beef or turkey, uncooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix until well combined, allowing the ingredients to become one harmonious mixture.
  3. Carefully transfer the mixture to your crockpot, spreading it out evenly for even cooking.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 360-480 minutes (6-8 hours).
  5. If using cheese, sprinkle it on top during the last 15 minutes of cooking.
  6. Serve hot, scooping out generous portions that invite smiles and warmth at your table.

Notes

Make-ahead tip: Prepare the mixture a day before and refrigerate. Just transfer to the crockpot in the morning. Cooking alternatives include using an oven-safe dish. Customize by adding vegetables or different herbs.
