Soft, chewy sugar cookie bars topped with creamy frosting, perfect for sharing with loved ones on Valentine’s Day.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup buttercream frosting
  • Pink food coloring
  • Sprinkles for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well mixed.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter-sugar mixture and mix until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Spread the cookie dough evenly in the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until lightly golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Allow to cool completely in the pan.
  9. Prepare the frosting by mixing the buttercream with pink food coloring.
  10. Spread the frosting over the cooled bars and top with sprinkles.
  11. Cut into bars and serve.

Notes

Use room-temperature ingredients for best results. Let cookie bars cool completely to prevent melting the frosting.
